Technical Language for Jewelers
Do you know the difference between a mallet and a hammer? What is a cope and drag?
If you’re not sure, keep reading below.
Who is this for?
As an American metalsmith living in Italy, I’ve collected a lot of information that is useful for anyone in the jewelry industry considering a move to Italy. As an English language teacher in Italy, I’ve also helped many students learn technical lingo for this industry. Blending this knowledge together I’m teaching it to all metalsmiths and jewelers no matter what your native language is.
How can I learn it?
To learn anything it simply takes time, practice, and a willingness to apply yourself studying with the right resources. Language learning can take years for some and honestly you never stop learning any language, even your own native tongue.
If you already speak English, then this page should be easy to understand so far. Your next step to learning the technical language for jewelry making and metalsmithing shouldn’t be so hard.
If you are a non-native English learner, don’t get overwhelmed or anxious. You can do it!
For everyone, I’ll break it down in easy to learn lessons in a self-paced online course. There are videos and PDFs you can download containing vocabulary and other helpful resources. Access the intro chapter for free to start learning and see what the full paid course offers with a low one-time payment.
