Lulu - German Shephard puppy dog

By TwitterButtons.com

Hi!  I’m Lulu.  A German Shepherd puppy dog that belongs to SMILES.  Since so many people have asked about me, my mom thought it’d be fun for me to have my own page on her website and tell my story.

In August 2009 I showed up at a lady’s house and began playing with her other 3 dogs.  When that lady came home and found me, I was kinda skinny and too playful for her older dogs that didn’t want to play so much.  They would snap at me.  They also dominated dinnertime and she would have to stand guard just so I’d be able to eat.  She thought it’d be best if she found me a new home all to myself so that I wouldn’t get hurt even though she really wanted to keep me herself.  That’s when a friend of a friend posted my picture on their Facebook page and is how my mom found out about me.

She came to see me the next day and by the weekend after she fixed up her fence I came to live with her and the 2 cats, Calvin and Splash.  Splash has become my friend now but Calvin still doesn’t like me very much.  Mom says I’m really smart, very sweet, and a good dog.  She thinks she’s very lucky to get a dog like me after wanting one for so long.  I guess the timing was just right for her.  Mom takes me on walks every day around the neighborhood or to play at the dog park and I can’t wait to go.  Sometimes we go for rides in the Jeep too.  I love meeting new people and playing with other dogs.

After about a month at my new home, Mom got really tired of seeing all the trash on the street during our walks around the neighborhood.  She thinks that the kids at the school nearby and some of the neighbors never learned how to pick up after themselves.  One morning a plastic bag had blown across the front yard and was stopped by our fence.  She picked it up and we filled it up during the walk.  We take one with us everytime we walk now and the neighborhood is getting cleaner.  She says that I inspired her to revive an old anti-litter campaign that she remembered from when she was a kid called “Leave Only Your Footprints.”  She wrote a blog about it here.  I get to be the campaign mascot and because there are other dogs on Twitter she created an account for me there too so people and other dogs can follow me.  Since I’m a working dog breed she thought it’d be perfect for me to have a job and teach people about not littering.

Mom’s very creative and she made a design to put on shirts, stickers, and other items to remind people not to litter.  It has her footprints and my pawprints on it.  She set up a shop on CafePress where they will make the items whenever you place an order so she doesn’t have to worry about it herself.  She’d rather spend her time playing with me and coming up with other ideas to promote our Leave Only Your Footprints campaign and her other projects.  She loves to give her support to other people who are doing good things and other charitable causes and wishes that she didn’t have to work all day away from me at home.  I can’t wait for her to come back from work everyday and wish she could do more from home too.  She’d like me to remind you that if you click some of the links on the site here whenever you are ready to go shopping that she’ll be able to get her wish sooner and I’ll be able to get some new toys too.  Sometimes other links she has on the site will help others fund their wishes too, like The Animal Rescue Site link at the top of this page.  Don’t be shy, use your paw to click a link and see where it will take you. You could be helping another dog or cat in need of food or a new home.
